I am a home-based hobby genealogist. While field-based research is attractive, my opportunities for that kind of (expensive) time away from home and work are limited at this point. I primarily use ancestry.com and familysearch.org in addition to tried-and-true practices like sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to town clerks who may have what I need.
